PRODUCT DETAILS

Product Details

Chamomile essential oil is derived from the flowers of the chamomile plant through a process known as steam distillation. It has a sweet, fruity aroma with herbal undertones and is widely used in aromatherapy and natural skincare products. Here are some technical details about chamomile essential oil:

1.Botanical Name: There are two main types of chamomile used for essential oil production: Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) and German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla). Both varieties have similar properties but come from different species.

2.Main Components: The chemical composition of chamomile essential oil can vary depending on the species, growing conditions, and distillation process. However, the main components typically found in chamomile essential oil include:

3.Roman Chamomile:

Esters: Isobutyl angelate, isoamyl angelate
Sesquiterpenes: α-bisabolol oxide A, α-bisabolol oxide B, α-bisabolone oxide A
Oxides: 1,8-cineole
German Chamomile:

Sesquiterpenes: α-bisabolol, chamazulene, bisabolol oxide A
Esters: Angelic acid, tiglic acid
Sesquiterpenoids: Farnesene, spiroethers
Color and Consistency: Chamomile essential oil is typically pale blue or greenish-blue in color due to the presence of chamazulene, especially in German chamomile oil. However, chamazulene content can vary, and some oils may have a clear or pale yellow color. The consistency of chamomile essential oil is thin and watery.

Aroma Strength: Chamomile essential oil has a medium aroma strength. It is soothing, calming, and often described as sweet and fruity with herbaceous undertones.

Blending: Chamomile essential oil blends well with a variety of other essential oils, including lavender, clary sage, geranium, rose, bergamot, ylang-ylang, and jasmine, among others.

Uses and Benefits: Chamomile essential oil is known for its calming and soothing properties. It is often used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation, reduce anxiety, and aid in sleep. It can also be used topically in skincare products to help soothe irritated skin, reduce redness, and promote overall skin health.

Caution: As with any essential oil, it is important to use chamomile oil with caution. Some individuals may be allergic or sensitive to chamomile, so it's recommended to perform a patch test before using it topically. Pregnant women should consult with a healthcare professional before using chamomile essential oil.

Calculations

HOW TO CALCULATE FOR 3% ESSENTIAL OIL WITH 50ML CARRIER OIL :

CALCULATION FOR MANDELIC ACID: 3 × 50 ÷ 100 = 1.5 ML

CALCULATION FOR CARRIER OIL : 50-1.5 = 48.5 ML

ONE CAN INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF ESSENTIAL OIL IF THE SKIN IS NOT SENSITIVE.

How to use (Formulation Guide)

Formulating with essential oils requires careful consideration of their properties, safety guidelines, and appropriate dilution rates. Here's a general guide on how to formulate with essential oils:

1) Understand the properties and benefits of essential oils:
-Familiarize yourself with the properties, scent profiles, and potential benefits of different essential oils. Each essential oil has unique characteristics and therapeutic properties, so it's important to select oils that align with your desired formulation goals.

2)Choose a suitable carrier/base:
-Essential oils should not be used undiluted on the skin. They need to be diluted in a carrier/base before use.
-Common carrier oils include jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and olive oil. These oils provide a medium for diluting essential oils and also offer their own benefits for the skin.

3) Determine the dilution rate:
-The dilution rate refers to the amount of essential oil to be added to a given amount of carrier/base oil. Dilution rates depend on various factors, including the purpose of the formulation, the intended use (body, face, hair), and the age and sensitivity of the person using the product.
-For adults, a common dilution rate is 2% to 3%, which equates to 12-18 drops of essential oil per 30 ml (1 oz) of carrier/base oil. However, certain essential oils may require lower dilutions due to their potency or potential skin sensitivity. Consult reliable resources or guidelines for specific essential oils.

4) Combine the essential oil and carrier/base oil:
-In a clean, dry container, add the desired amount of carrier/base oil.
-Add the appropriate number of drops of essential oil based on the chosen dilution rate. Remember to refer to guidelines and safety information for each essential oil to ensure you stay within safe limits.
-Stir or shake the mixture well to thoroughly combine the oils.

5) Optional additions:
-You can enhance your formulation by adding other ingredients like vitamin E oil (as a natural preservative), herbal extracts, or other oils with specific benefits (e.g., rosehip oil for anti-aging properties).
-Be cautious about the compatibility of additional ingredients and their potential interactions with essential oils. Research and conduct small-scale tests before making larger batches.

6) Store and label:
-Transfer the formulation to a clean, airtight container for storage. Amber glass bottles are often used to protect the oils from light exposure.
-Label the container with the date, ingredients used, and any specific instructions or precautions.

7)Safety considerations:
-Always follow safety guidelines and avoid excessive use or high concentrations of essential oils, as they can cause skin irritation or sensitization.
-Consider the specific safety precautions for each essential oil, including any contraindications or precautions related to pregnancy, children, or specific health conditions.
-Conduct patch tests before using the formulation on a larger area of the body to check for any adverse reactions.

Remember to consult reputable sources, books, or professional aromatherapists for more detailed information on specific essential oils, their properties, and suitable dilution rates.
