PRODUCT DETAILS

Product Details

Wintergreen essential oil is derived from the leaves of the Gaultheria procumbens plant, which is native to North America. It is known for its strong minty, refreshing aroma and has been used for various purposes, including aromatherapy, pain relief, and as a flavoring agent. Here are some technical details about wintergreen essential oil:

1.Botanical Name: Gaultheria procumbens

2.Extraction Method: Wintergreen essential oil is typically extracted through steam distillation of the leaves of the wintergreen plant.

3.Chemical Composition: The main active component of wintergreen essential oil is methyl salicylate, which can make up 85-99% of the oil's composition. Other constituents include gaultherilene, limonene, myrcene, and delta-3-carene.

4.Aroma: Wintergreen essential oil has a strong, minty aroma with sweet undertones. It is often described as having a refreshing and uplifting scent.

5.Color and Consistency: The oil is usually colorless or pale yellow and has a thin, watery consistency.

6.Potential Benefits: Wintergreen essential oil is known for its potential analgesic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic properties. It is often used topically to relieve muscle and joint pain, soothe headaches, and reduce inflammation. It is also used in oral care products and as a flavoring agent in food and beverages.

7.Precautions: Wintergreen essential oil is highly concentrated and should be used with caution. It contains high levels of methyl salicylate, which can be toxic if ingested in large amounts. It is not recommended for internal use, and pregnant women, children, and individuals with certain medical conditions should consult a healthcare professional before using this oil.

8.Blending: Wintergreen essential oil blends well with other essential oils such as peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, and sweet birch.

9.Storage: It is advisable to store wintergreen essential oil in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat to maintain its quality and potency.

Note: Wintergreen essential oil should not be confused with "wintergreen oil" derived from the Gaultheria fragrantissima plant, which has different chemical properties and uses.
Please note that while wintergreen essential oil has been traditionally used for various purposes, it is essential to consult a qualified aromatherapist or healthcare professional for guidance on proper usage, dilution ratios, and safety precautions.

Calculations

HOW TO CALCULATE FOR 3% ESSENTIAL OIL WITH 50ML CARRIER OIL :

CALCULATION FOR MANDELIC ACID: 3 × 50 ÷ 100 = 1.5 ML

CALCULATION FOR CARRIER OIL : 50-1.5 = 48.5 ML

ONE CAN INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF ESSENTIAL OIL IF THE SKIN IS NOT SENSITIVE.

How to use (Formulation Guide)

Formulating with essential oils requires careful consideration of their properties, safety guidelines, and appropriate dilution rates. Here's a general guide on how to formulate with essential oils:

1) Understand the properties and benefits of essential oils:
-Familiarize yourself with the properties, scent profiles, and potential benefits of different essential oils. Each essential oil has unique characteristics and therapeutic properties, so it's important to select oils that align with your desired formulation goals.

2)Choose a suitable carrier/base:
-Essential oils should not be used undiluted on the skin. They need to be diluted in a carrier/base before use.
-Common carrier oils include jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and olive oil. These oils provide a medium for diluting essential oils and also offer their own benefits for the skin.

3) Determine the dilution rate:
-The dilution rate refers to the amount of essential oil to be added to a given amount of carrier/base oil. Dilution rates depend on various factors, including the purpose of the formulation, the intended use (body, face, hair), and the age and sensitivity of the person using the product.
-For adults, a common dilution rate is 2% to 3%, which equates to 12-18 drops of essential oil per 30 ml (1 oz) of carrier/base oil. However, certain essential oils may require lower dilutions due to their potency or potential skin sensitivity. Consult reliable resources or guidelines for specific essential oils.

4) Combine the essential oil and carrier/base oil:
-In a clean, dry container, add the desired amount of carrier/base oil.
-Add the appropriate number of drops of essential oil based on the chosen dilution rate. Remember to refer to guidelines and safety information for each essential oil to ensure you stay within safe limits.
-Stir or shake the mixture well to thoroughly combine the oils.

5) Optional additions:
-You can enhance your formulation by adding other ingredients like vitamin E oil (as a natural preservative), herbal extracts, or other oils with specific benefits (e.g., rosehip oil for anti-aging properties).
-Be cautious about the compatibility of additional ingredients and their potential interactions with essential oils. Research and conduct small-scale tests before making larger batches.

6) Store and label:
-Transfer the formulation to a clean, airtight container for storage. Amber glass bottles are often used to protect the oils from light exposure.
-Label the container with the date, ingredients used, and any specific instructions or precautions.

7)Safety considerations:
-Always follow safety guidelines and avoid excessive use or high concentrations of essential oils, as they can cause skin irritation or sensitization.
-Consider the specific safety precautions for each essential oil, including any contraindications or precautions related to pregnancy, children, or specific health conditions.
-Conduct patch tests before using the formulation on a larger area of the body to check for any adverse reactions.

Remember to consult reputable sources, books, or professional aromatherapists for more detailed information on specific essential oils, their properties, and suitable dilution rates.
