Benefits of azelaic acid

Azelaic acid is a multifunctional skincare ingredient that offers several benefits for various skin concerns. Here are some of the key benefits of azelaic acid:

  • Acne Treatment: Azelaic acid is known for its efficacy in treating acne. It helps to regulate the production of sebum (skin oil) and has antimicrobial properties that target the bacteria associated with acne, particularly Propionibacterium acnes. By reducing excess oil and controlling bacterial growth, azelaic acid can help prevent and reduce the occurrence of acne breakouts.
  • Anti-Inflammatory: Azelaic acid has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help calm redness, irritation, and inflammation associated with skin conditions like acne and rosacea. It can soothe the skin and reduce the appearance of inflammatory lesions.
  • Hyperpigmentation and Melasma: Azelaic acid has been shown to inhibit the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color. This makes it effective in addressing hyperpigmentation, including melasma, which is a common skin condition characterized by brown patches on the skin. Regular use of azelaic acid can help fade dark spots and even out skin tone.
  • Rosacea Management: People with rosacea, a chronic skin condition characterized by redness, flushing, and sometimes pustules, may benefit from azelaic acid. Its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties can help reduce redness and control the underlying factors contributing to rosacea flare-ups.
  • Mild Exfoliation: Azelaic acid has a mild exfoliating effect on the skin. It helps to gently remove dead skin cells from the surface, promoting cell turnover and revealing smoother, brighter skin. This can lead to an improved complexion and a more even skin texture.
  • Antioxidant Properties: Azelaic acid also exhibits antioxidant properties, which means it can help protect the skin from environmental stressors and free radicals that can lead to premature aging. This antioxidant activity contributes to the overall health and appearance of the skin.
  • Non-Irritating: Azelaic acid is generally well-tolerated by most skin types, including sensitive skin. It is less likely to cause irritation or sensitivity compared to some other active ingredients, making it a suitable option for a wide range of individuals.
  • Combination Therapy: Azelaic acid can be used in combination with other skincare ingredients, such as retinoids, niacinamide, and alpha hydroxy acids, to address multiple skin concerns simultaneously. Its compatibility with other actives makes it a versatile addition to skincare routines.

How to use (Formulation Guide)

Ingredients you'll need to make 10% Azelaic acid 100 ml serum:

It's important to add the powder slowly to ensure even distribution and dissolution. c. Heat the solution to 60°C and Continue stirring gently until the azelaic acid is completely dissolved in the propylene glycol. This process might take a few minutes. later add the rose water and glycerine.

3) Storage: Once the azelaic acid is fully dissolved and the pH is adjusted if needed, you can transfer the solution to a suitable container for storage. Make sure the container is clean and properly sealed.
